Why did my siamese fighter die?

I have three siamese fighter fish. I keep them in separate little fish bowls. No heater and no air filter. As they produce their own oxygen. Now this morning the one just lay dead at the bottom of the bowl. I never had problems like this before. He was new and there is no indication that he had any disease etc.

Any tips – Should I rather invest in a small Oxygenn pump?
